Virginia highlights from the Millrose Games (more coverage to come):

West Springfield senior Caroline Alcorta won the Millrose Games high school girls mile in a new meet record time of 4:46.06 on Saturday evening. The time ranks her US #3 in the event behind the two all-time greats that raced in the women's pro mile earlier in the meet between the race winner Mary Cain (4:27) and sixth place finisher Alexa Efraimson. The UNC recruit Alcorta also in her monumental Millrose Games victory also broke the 9 year old Virginia high school indoor state girls' mile record in the process. The previous Virginia high school girls indoor state record in the mile was held by Sarah Bowman, who ran a 4:46.79 in 2005 at Fauquier High School in the indoor nationals.

In the high school boys' mile race, Deep Run junior Matthew Novak was the top Virginia finisher with a new PR of 4:15.86 for 8th place. Novak bested his previous PR time of 4:16 from last spring's Florida Relays win. Also competing in the race, but not with their best performances or times were seniors Nick Causey (12th, 4:21) of Osbourn Park  & Louis Colson (14th, 4:30) of Thomas Edison at Millrose. The Virginia 5A state cross country champion Colson is still looking to regain strength from recent illness, which he tried to come back soon as a late add back into the race after pulling out earlier in the week.

Meanwhile, Causey must have left a lot still on the track in his mile race as he certainly came back strong less than 2 hours later in the high school boys 4x800 meter relay race for Osbourn Park boys. With a sub 1:53 anchor leg by Causey, the Osbourn Park boys won in dramatic fashion over State College High School from Pennsylvania in a US #2 clocking of 7:47.02 at the Armory. Osbourn Park boys splits went in order: Kyle Weinberg 1:58.01, Matt Luiggi 1:57.50, Jacob Black 1:58.90, and Nick Causey 1:52.47. Their 4x800 performance on Saturday night now ranks the Osbourn Park boys in a tied postion for VA #5 all-time indoors with last year's Thomas Edison squad.
