High Schoo Boys Discus Championship

VA #1 All-Time 200-9 Discus by Matthew Zajac

E.C. Glass, 1st Place, US #2

Zajac makes a nearly 20 foot improvement on his preliminary mark to launch a monster mark on one of his last two throws in finals. Zajac now is the best discus thrower all-time acording to our rankings. Zajac was the champion here and now ranks second in the entire nation. Zajac will be looking to add to his trophy case in the coming weeks both at the State and National level.

Boys 3000m Championship

US #1 8:16.31 3000m by Andrew Hunter!

Loudoun Valley, 1st Place

Andrew ran a near flawless race. He positioned himself well within the pack through the first five laps, in position to not be boxed. He then made progressive but smooth moves up the track to get into third with two laps to go. He then made a move into second and in the final 500m made a great move to take the lead. He opened up a lead and powered down the back stretch and was able to hold off his nearest competitor to run a very impressive 8:16.31! Not to mention he is only a sophomore and this time was #2 all-time at the Penn Relays.

Boys 4x800 Qualifying Rounds

7:49.89 Blacksburg COA Qualifier!

Jacob McCoy (1:58.02), Michael Carter (1:56.96), Flip Bishop (1:59.00), Kenneth Hagen (1:55.93)

They did this without any real warmup, they literally were tieing their shoes in the paddock and made it onto the track 30 seconds before the gun went off! This race also looked quite relaxed for the later legs. They will have a lot of competition from Calabar of Jamaica who went 7:33 two weeks ago. McCoy got boxed a little to start but after a lap he opened up a lead. Flip and Michael both held their lead until the exchange and Hagen brought it home in a comfortable 1:55. The weather was sunny and low 60s, perfect weather for a 4x800. Let's hope this weather holds up for the girls this evening. Blacksburg is the 4th seed in tomorrow's final! Chaminade, Calabar, and South Brunswick seeded higher. They are the only Virginians to qualify. It took 7:55.57 to make this final.
