Sherando boys dominate on tough PA course

The Sherando boys, gearing up for another state podium run in AA, seem to be well on their way to repeating the same feat in 2007 as they won their second consecutive invitational in as many weeks at the first annual Juniata College Invite in Altoona, Pennsylvania. While a tough 5K course beat up on the runners with only the race winner breaking 17 minutes, Sherando gave a similar beat down to the Pennyslvania and Western Virginia teams present as they finished 74 points ahead of the next team in the 21 team field. Another tight pack for their top five, which was a key to success last week in a win against Region II rival Potomac Falls at the Judges Classic, was found again for Sherando with a mere 20 seconds separting their top five in Scott Guichard (5th, 17:48), Danny Stiefvater (6th, 17:51), David Sperry (8th, 18:00), Colby Witt (13th, 18:17), and Sean Whitson (14th, 18:18). The Sherando girls also faired well as a team with two freshmen leading them up front in Krista DeCault (4th, 20:54) and Rachel Tripp (5th, 21:02) to take runner-up honors with 61 points.
