MileStat.com Announces Kevin Monogue Student Athlete of The Year

Each year we have named an athlete of the year, our highest honor, to a deserving and talented individual. Though that award represents mastery of our sport and dominance over the state and nation, it does not however fully encompass what some of these athletes do. To rectify this and create a more holistic award, we are announcing the first ever MileStat.com Student-Athlete of the year.

The MileStat.com Student-Athlete of The Year award is to us on the same level as athlete of the year honors. It is based on mastery of our sport and the classroom. This award is meant to highlight both the athletic and academic side of these student-athletes for they not only run in the afternoons but also work all day in the classroom and sometimes in the night as well with clubs and other extracurriculars. We have been doing a lot of research for this award and asking around both with high school and college coaches to find a deserving recipient for this award in its first installment.

RICHMOND, VA - MileStat is proud to announce Kevin Monogue (senior, Lake Braddock Secondary School) as the first ever MileStat.com Student-Athlete of The Year. Kevin carries a 4.0 unweighted G.P.A. and was the runner-up at the 6A State Cross Country meet this past November with a pr time of 15:19. As a team captain he led the Bruins to the State XC team title this past fall to go along with Conference 7 titles as well.

" Kevin is a great kid and is quite likely the smartest kid at Lake Braddock. He has an uncanny ability to be able to see the next level." - Lake Braddock Distance Coach Mike Mangan

Kevin has proven throughout his time in high school he is a hard worker and guy that is hungry to learn and push himself further. In the classroom he has taken 10 AP courses and thus far has a perfect record on the AP test. Out on the track he has consistently pushed himself to get better each and every season as well. This hard work has been very evident in XC where he improved by nearly 30-60 seconds each year.

Outside of his track and academic career Kevin has found time to truly make a difference both at Lake Braddock and in the surrounding communities. He currently serves as National Honor Society President at Braddock and as a school ambassador. In his spare time from those activities Kevin also tutors and volunteers at a local homeless shelter.

" In my position I interact with many student-athletes on a weekly basis but few stand out quite like Kevin. Aside from being very intelligent and talented he is a visible leader and respectful young man. I recall at the CNU Track invitational watching Kevin walk around and pick up trash (that was not his or Braddock's) for a good five minutes before leaving. Things like that and conversations with him have shown me his true character and is why he has been awarded this honor." - Nolan Jez (MileStat.com)

In the fall Kevin will be attending the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and studying in the prestigious Wharton School of Business.
