#9: McArthur & Murphy Both Refuse To Lose!
Though this may not be the top moment of the year, it is the highest ranked race between two Virginians and arguably one of the best races ever! Let's set the stage for you prior to this race going off. Going back to last year's outdoor state meet Rachel and Kate's head-to-head record was 4-5 in favor of Murphy who had won the previous 5 meetings. These races were very close however and almost all decided by under a second!
Needless to say, despite their close friendship, neither of them wanted to lose to the other in the 2015 6A 3200. The race went off clean and started day 2's action off great in the morning. For once Rachel let Kate take the lead for the majority of the race. It wasn't until 300m to go that they started to make a move and jockey for position heading into the final half-lap. Coming off the turn they were dead-even and the race came down to the final inches where Rachel McArthur took home the crown in a photo finish! She won by .04 seconds and both times of 10:19.91 and 10:19.95 rank as #7 and #8 all-time.
