The Fastest Ever! 8:51.61 VA State Record For Western Branch 4x800

The team comprised of Adriana Shockley, Martina Smalls, Faith Ross, and Amanda Thomas made history this weekend by not only winning the 6A state title but also by breaking their own state record with their 8:51.61 performance. That time is the new meet record, state record, school record, and US #1 this year.

The race went out really how they wanted it to. They came through in 67 to open and 2:16 for the opening leg with Lake Braddock then Cosby and Patriot close behind.

Then halfway things started to get very interesting. West Springfield used their ace in Bustamante to handoff in the lead after two legs but Western Branch had moved up into second place with Lake Braddock and Patriot chasing them both. Faith Ross was up next for the Bruins and she has this habit of taking it out hard and never looking back and that is exactly what she did this time.

Onto the anchor legs and it wasn't even a race at this point as Faith opened very fast and held on to split right around a 2:08 unofficially.

Though she isn't 100% back yet, Amanda still managed to put on a complete clinic as she opened strong and made sure Rachel McArthur and Kate Murphy knew it was a race for second place. Which we should mention was actually a really awesome race for second place.

Amanda Crossed the line in 8:51.61 meaning she split a high 2:08 or low 2:09 split basically in a solo effort.
