Meet Team VA's Olympians!

LaShawn Merritt

(Woodrow Wilson - 2004)

200/400/4x400

The Portsmouth native not only made the Olympic team but made the entire world open up their eyes for an athlete who can very well bring home some serious hardware from Rio.

LaShawn was the 400m Olympic Champion in the Beijing Games of 2008. He also won gold in the 4x400 but this time around he is going for Michael Johnson levels of gold with his three events.

He is a multiple time national champion and more importantly a many time AAA State Champion and State Record holder still to this day in the 400m dash.

LaShawn currently ranks World #1 in the 400 at 43.97 and World #1 in the 200 at 19.74 making him the technical favorite for both events. He would join rarified air if he were to win gold in both as only Michael Johnson has ever done so on the guys' side.
