#7 Rachel Returns Race Ready

Patriot senior Rachel McArthur enters the season fresh and ready to roll. Not to mention coming off of a huge outdoor state meet where she took down Kate Murphy and ran VA #3 all-time 2:06.55 in the 800m run.

That momentum is actually what Rachel needed. There is no doubt she is talented, and maybe the most talented athlete in the entire state of Virginia but her racing was always the question.

Rachel is fast, like really fast, but it seemed like she didn't always take each race seriously. She didn't treat every race like the Super Bowl or with as much seriousness as us fans wanted her to... but maybe that all is a blessing in disguise.

Racing every single race like it is your last is very taxing on your mind. It wears you down over time. It also can take away some of the fun of this sport and the hours of training or it could drive you... it definitely is an individual thing.

Rachel has a lot of talent she has yet to show us and it seems that that 800 started a new fire in her late into her career. That race and the momentum it brought after an injury filled XC and indoor season could propel her into national dominance.

If Rachel shows determination in all her races for the entire race like she did in that 800, you really can't make an argument for any opponent of hers to beat her.

This season is going to be a big one and in a bizarre way has her returning as a state champion after a year absence.

Expect big things from Rachel this season.
