Kate Murphy Commits To Oregon!

Kate Murphy of Lake Braddock High School, Va. announced her verbal commitment to the University of Oregon via Twitter on Tuesday night.

The senior ranks No. 5 on the Saucony Flo50 National XC Rankings, but her true expertise lies on the track. She is one of the top 10 all-time preps in both the 1500m (#3, 4:07.21) and the 3K (#5, 9:10.51) as well as the indoor 1K (#3, 2:45.36) and Mile (#6, 4:39.47).

Murphy is the fastest-ever prep over 1500m not to turn pro while still in high school, as her time is third only behind Mary Cain and Alexa Efraimson -- although never say never, as Drew Hunter famously committed to Oregon last fall then signed with adidas over the summer.

She chose the Ducks over Villanova and UVA.

This past summer, she represented Team USA at the IAAF World U20 Championships in the 3K along with Katie Rainsberger, now a freshman at the University of Oregon. Fast-forward to 4:45 in the interview video below to hear Rainsberger talk about preparing for college and whether or not Murphy would join her in Eugene in 2017.
