At Midlothian, senior leads young runners in race for team title

Paige Johnston has one season left to help see Midlothian strongly out in front before she leaves it behind her.

Now a senior, she was part of the first Trojans team to win a girls state cross country title back in 2005. That fall, Johnston was the fastest freshman in the Group AAA state meet, as well as the fastest freshman in her district and region meets.

"We were the underdogs, and it was the first time our school had ever won a girls state cross country championship," she said. "Every year after has been just as exciting, but I think that year was just a tad bit more because we had no idea, and then the next year comes with expectations."
