30 Days & 30 Reasons The VA Showcase is THE MEET This Year

Reason #11: Athletes from 11 different states plus the District of Columbia and Jamaica so far are entered in competition at this meet. Outside of nationals, this will be one of the most "national" and the only "international" meets this season making for a true showcase of talent. It is of course in large part because of VA's depth of talent and the high level of this facility that so many elite teams/athletes want to make the trip to this great meet.

Reason #12: This meet will feature a 12 second 100m hurdler. Chanel Brissett (12.95) last year closed very strong to take home her first national title in the hurdles. This indoor season she will be all business as she opens up her season in what she hopes will be a national championship season. She has competed in the Olympic Trials and won numerous state titles so this season is all about time and that national title. She will want to have a statement time this January and enters the season with a 7.65 personal best in the event. This of course will be fun to watch considering sophomore Shadajah Ballard (Western Branch) just opened in 7.79 two weeks ago.

Reason #13: There is an indoor steeple chase! Yep, you no longer have to wait until later May to get your reps over the barriers as the VA Showcase will be running one section (per gender) of the Mile Steeplechase Saturday afternoon. The race will not include a water pit but will be run just like the 2K steeple chase and could really show athletes how they would perform in this grueling event.

Reason #14: It isn't coincidence that the VA Showcase, the first ever meet to host a Jamaican HS relay team indoors, is happened exactly 100 days before the Penn Relays. Though that fact is awesome enough on its own, it is only enhanced knowing that you can watch both LIVE on FloTrack.com

Reason #15: The boys' pole vault should be well over 15 feet. The past two years in VA have really been building for this when it comes to pole vault. If all the top athletes in the state enter into the competition then you can expect maybe even a 16'+ performance from the stacked Virginia contingent at this event.
