The 2017 indoor track season produced not only national caliber individual performances but also very solid state champion teams. One of the stronger teams gathering points from across the board was the Warriors from Western Albemarle (Crozet).
Coaching these Warriors and taking home the Indoor T&F Coach of The Year award is Cherie Witt.
Witt, a long time coach, has been slowly coaching more and more and it is definitely showing. Her team rose to new heights this season scoring a solid 94.5 points and took home the 3A State title. 58 of those points specifically came from the distance core group which is her specialty.
This was Western's first team title since 2005 and was especially impressive considering to win they had to beat I.C. Norcom, Phoebus, and Blacksburg. All three of those teams not only have solid depth but also very strong superstars. What this all says is that Witt's coaching job this season was superb and unequaled both on the strategy and training fronts.
