Several scratches of the top entrants left Trinity's Barbara Strehler out in front in the girls' mile run at the Eastern States Championships on Tuesday night at the New York Armory to make her pursuit of a sub 5 mile tougher. In her final race of the year since she plays lacrosse in the spring, Strehler had to push the pace on her own and represented the state well to lead wire-to-wire in a 5:01.54 victory, which converts to a sub 5 minute 1600 meter time. Her next competitive race will not be until she is running for the University of Virginia next fall.
The St. Christopher's boys also competed in New York as it was their first meet this season outside of their own indoor track facility. The private school state track champions turned in solid times in relays with a 1:31.74 in the 4x200, 3:28.28 in the 4x400, and 8:08.95 in the 4x800. St. Christopher's senior Alex James also had a good mark in the shot put of 54'7" for his third straight meet with a throw over 54 feet.
