TAMPA--Kevin Lyons and Andy Biladeau are quite familiar with eachother. They have raced against eachother all season long, known eachother their whole running careers, and even trained together over the summer. Their friendly rivalry proved the key battle in yesterday's 2A District 5 race at Al Lopez Park.
"He threw on a spurt (during the last 400) and I just didn't have anything left," Biladeau said in a St. Pete Times article. The dual continued throughout the meet and each were pushed to top notch times: Lyons to a 15:06 course record and Biladeau to a hasty 15:13 (personal best by 12 seconds).
The two runners and the other advancers from the district will move on meet with the best from 2A District 6 at the regional level. Lyons and Biladeau go into that race favored to repeat at 1 and 2...their most potent competition for those spots coming from in-district competitiors Chanse Travers of Sebring and Biladeau's teammate Colin Strickland, who the two handily defeated--at least for this round.
