Brentwood Wins DMR at Indoor Nationals

Brentwood beat a loaded field of runners to win the New Balance National Championship in the DMR on Friday night.

The veteran team of Scott Thompson, Max Benson, Dodger Vest and Brodey Hasty ran the second-fastest indoor DMR ever. Their winning time of 9:56 edged out second place St. Anthony's (NY) by two seconds.

Brentwood got off to a great start. Thompson ran a 3:02 to keep Brentwood in the front pack early in the 1200 meter leg. Vest kept them in it on the 400m leg, running 50.87.

The final two legs were the difference. Benson had one of the best races of his career, running the fastest 800 leg of any team in the race. He dropped a 1:53 to put Brentwood in the lead, just two-tenths of a second ahead of Loudoun Valley (VA).

After that, it was all Brodey Hasty.

The Oregon commit has run sub-4:05 three times this season. All three came against fields of collegiate and professional runners. At Millrose, he ran 4:00.05.

On Friday night, Hasty was the second-fastest miler in the field. His 4:09 was enough to secure the victory over a charging St. Anthony's, led by Mason Gatewood. Gatewood's 4:07 wasn't enough to catch the Brentwood senior.
