L.C. Bird Dominates VHSL 5A State Meet

In a meet that was supposed to be close, the L.C. Bird Skyhawks made sure it was anything but close. They not only defended their indoor title and won their first outdoor team title but did so in impressive fashion. They scored 94 points which was more than any other guys' team this weekend.

Though the points and overall team performance was impressive, the real highlight of the weekend for them was their relay dominance. They very well could have been the first guys team to ever sweep the relays at a state meet. Western Branch has done that on the girls' side.

The weekend started with the 4x800m relay. In that race the Skyhawks closed the door quickly on any team catching them despite some very fast splits from Deep Run and Atlee. They crossed the line in first in 7:49.32 despite very hot conditions.

Next up was the 4x1 relay. This one saw a sketchy handoff on anchor but despite that they won the race in a season best 41.66.

To end the meet it was the 4x400m relay. Even though they had already won the meet they kept their foots on the gas and crossed the line in another season best of 3:16.09.
