Jaren Holmes: Going The Distance & Coming For Points

Watch the VHSL 1/2 | 3/4 | 5/6 | States LIVE on MileSplit along with 50+ other state championships across America.

Riverbend senior Jaren Holmes is coming for all the points this weekend. He enters the Group 6 Championships as the favorite in both the long and triple jumps and also as a contender in the high jump  and 110H as well. Indoors he won both horizontals and finished 4th in the high to tally up 25 points.

Holmes is in a unique position. Not only is he one of the few multi-event favorites but he also gets to truly focus on himself. Though Riverbend is a strong team, they are not in title contention and that allows for Holmes to focus on making history happen.

This weekend if he runs and jumps according to his seeds he could leave Todd Stadium with a staggering 33 points. Only athletes like Grant Holloway or Quincy Watts have done that recently with competition getting tougher and tougher across the board.

To achieve this he will need to make sure he has few misses in the high jump and gets a great mark in early in the horizontals allowing for him to jump for bust in the following jumps.

Jaren Holmes is also chasing some VA history as he inches closer to 50' in the triple and 25' in the long. His personal bests of 48-11 and 24-1.5 are also VA #2 this year. If he were able to improve to 50 and 25 he would also be the only Virginia athlete to ever achieve both distances.
