Kick Of The Week: VA State Meet 800m Upset

Glen Allen High School (VA) junior Star Price had only run the 800m two times prior to the VHSL Class 5A State Outdoor T&F Championships, but that didn't stop her from going after gold on Saturday.

When the race started, Price -- who's typically been more of a sprinter/400m runner -- bided her time. Through 400 meters, she found herself somewhere in the middle of the pack until about 200m to go. That's when she kicked it into high gear, passing six girls within the final stretch.

She attributed much of her success to having the speed from being a 400m runner.

"So I knew my start wasn't going to be that great because just started running this and I'm not used to the waterfall start," Price said afterward. "I was really just going to sit on everyone because I'm not used to pacing myself and I knew when it came to the end I cold beat most of them in a foot race being a sprinter."

Watch the final lap of the 800m race above and her more from Price in her post race interview below.
