VHSL To Move Class 1/2/3 XC States To Salem

After 25 years, the state cross country meet is leaving Great Meadow. Starting in 2019 the large and small school state championships will be spread across the state at two venues with Class 1/2/3 being held at Green Hill Park in Salem and Class 4/5/6 being held at Great Meadow.

Previous Story from October 2018

This year's state meets will also now all be held on Saturday to mitigate travel expenses and the missing of classes. Many schools however are still planning on traveling to preview the courses the day prior to the event if the courses will be open.

The new host to the state meet is where the annual Knights Crossing Invitational is held. It is widely known as a flat fast course. The course is part grass and part gravel with one chokepoint on the course, a wooden bridge roughly 30 feet long which athletes must cross.

The facility as a whole is a great host with ample close parking, large team areas, and close access to the course throughout. Each year the Knights Crossing Invitational is ranked as one of the best cross country meets in the entire state.
