Unlike the other races at Great Meadow this November, this one looks to be a runaway with Midlothian regaining their spot as one of the top teams not only in their classification but the entire state as well. With six underclassmen and only one senior in their ranks they are looking forward to this post-season and beyond.
Stone Bridge, Mountain View, and Glen Allen are all chasing for that second spot. Though things are very early in the season still, Midlothian is definitely the team to beat come November.
Individually things are a lot more dicey.
Four girls in Class 5 have broken 19 minutes so far with one very capable of making it five.
Leading the way on paper right now is Maury's Maeve Stiles who was 9th a year ago while sick. She is followed by Liza Neely of Freeman and Midlo teammates Gabriella Garcia and Caroline Bowe. Those four girls have all run between 18:27 and 18:35 this season.
The wildcard girl is Kylie Bonser, a freshman at Midlothian. She was out the week of adidas but still has run a VA Class 5 #6 19:17 this season. That puts her legitimately in the 18:30's range on a faster course.
Needless to say, this race is going to be exciting and without a clear favorite it is going to be hard to call even later in the season. Maeve will most likely be the athlete most ready to lead from the gun as she is very used to that tactic. The real question though will be who else is going to be right there with her.
