LoCo Weekly Roundup: PR's All Around


This past weekend was full of PR's, all teams, with the exception of Tuscarora, ran at very fast courses. Most schools raced at the Third Battle Invitational in Winchester, VA, and a couple teams travelled to the MileStat Invitational in Mechanicsville, VA.


  • Briar Woods High School: Third Battle Invitational- Starting out with the Boys Varsity team, finishing in 7th, and with no surprise, junior Aidan Nathan finished in the top 10, running a 15:58. Zach Mitchell finished in 47th with a 16:44. The remainder of the team also ran season PR's: Gabriel Gallagher, Matthew Flynn, Benjamin Char, Nicholas Crabb, and Oliver Baumann. The Girls Varsity team finished in 18th, sophomore Nicole Winklosky finishing first for the team, 19:40. Dahlia Trippel ran a 20:23.

  • Broad Run High School: Third Battle Invitational- Once again, Ellie Desmond ran a fast time of 18:06, placing 2nd. The Girls Varsity team finished in 30th, second runner Christina Yang placing 157th. The Boys Varsity team finished in 35th, Ziyad Hassan finishing in 76th, and the rest of the team running very fast times.  

  • Dominion High School: Third Battle Invitational- Starting out with the Girls Varsity team, almost all ran a PR, senior Katie O'Neill finished in 39th, running 19:47. Junior Anusha Jain was very close behind, running a 19:54. Senior Ryan Hale ran an all time PR of 20:40, and junior Ashley Cerino finished with a 21:07. In the Girls JV Upperclassmen race, the team finished in 5th, Abby Low finishing #1 on the JV team in 9th. Junior Natalie Sandridge, senior Kayla Moggadham, and junior Kailly Chicas all ran season PR's. The Girls JV Underclassmen race also included a number of season PR's: freshman Lia Pugsley won the race with a 30 second gap between her and 2nd place (19:36). Michelle Flores ran a 22:05, and Lindsey Wright ran a 23:00. The Boys team also had a number of PRs. In the Varsity race, Luke Miller and Amir Aougab ran together to finish with sub-16:45 times. Senior Ian Whitfield finished with a 17:18, helping the team place 15th. The Boys JV Upperclassmen team finished in 3rd place, with Nick Sibley being the top runner, placing 3rd with a time of 17:24. Not far behind, senior Kyle Foster finished in 15th, with a time of 17:41. The Boys JV Underclassmen team had a successful weekend, running multiple PR's. Emilio Cortez (26), Aaron Foster (29), and Tyler Whitfield (32) all ran under 18:15. 

  • Freedom High School: MileStat Invitational- The eagles were one of the two Loudoun County high schools to travel to Mechanicsville for the MileStat Invitational, Mackenzie Keller finished first for the team in the Girls Varsity race, running an 18:41 and finishing in 18th, and junior Abigail Church finished in 26th with an 18:59. Madison Garber went sub-20 to be the third runner on the team. In the Boys Varsity race, Clark Smith went 16:04 to run an all time PR, and teammates Daniel Gittelman, Sumedh Julapalli, and travis Nguyen all finished within 8 seconds of each other, taking 77th, 82nd, and 89th. 

  • Heritage High School: Third Battle Invitational- Placing 9th as a team in the Girls Varsity race, Jenny Schilling finished 6th with a 19:37. 2 and 3: Carissa Baugus and Nina Costanza both ran sub-20's. Junior Ryan Pendergast finished in 18th in the Boys Varsity race, going 16:22. Nicolas Iman, Troy Ellis, and Jacob Wolfson all finished close behind and took 93rd, 111th, and 116th. 

  • Independence High School: Third Battle Invitational- For their last regular season meet of the cross country team's first year, the tigers rounded out with a 23rd place finish in the Boys Varsity race, Charlie Blundell placing 27th as the team's top runner. Braden Sturman came in not far behind and took 42nd. On the girl's side, the team finished in 31st place, Kylie Sturman being the top runner on the girl's side, ran a 21:20. Shayna Elbaum finished 2 places behind, with a 21:23. 

  • John Champe High School: Third Battle Invitational- The knights had PR's across the board, and the Girls Varsity team preparing for their chance to win states next month. Bethany Graham won the Girls Varsity race, running a 17:12. Teammates Marianne Jayaraj, Olivia Lecker, Taylor Gibson, Emily McMahon, Hannah Gentrup, and Leila Jarama all ran season PR's, if not, all time PR's. The team finished in 4th overall. The Boys Varsity race consisted of Kyle Lauffenberger, who helped the boys finish in 17th, ran a 16:35. 2nd, 3rd, and 4th runners Gregory Dalla, Jack Buchanan, and Brady Thoden all went sub-17:30. 

  • Loudoun County High School: Third Battle Invitational- The Boys Varsity team finished their regular season with a 13th place, Sean Rombach PRing with a 16:36. The next four runners all finished within 13 seconds of each other: Ethan Stansbury (17:13), Jason Sangiuliano (17:14), Joshua Bernstein (17:15), and Daniel Gribbin (17:26). In the Girls Varsity race, junior Lexie Vanderloo finishing first for the team with a 20:23. Freshman Eden Sanders was not far behind, running a 21:27. 

  • Loudoun Valley High School: Third Battle Invitational- The lady vikings won yet another meet in the varsity division. Senior Elise Abbe placed 3rd (18:20), Cecelia Fetterolf 20th (19:19), Abby Keane 25th (19:30), Leah Snyder 30th (19:36). The remainder of the Varsity girls also ran very fast times. In the JV Upperclassmen race, the first 7 girls all placed in the top 15: Kyra Holland (1, 19:27), Jordan Campbell (2, 19:53), Hannah Holland (3, 20:34), Jordan Sheldon (4, 20:42), Arya Tadepalli (5, 20:54), Maria Soly (6, 20:55), and Kate Brennan (15, 21:46). The JV Underclassmen race consisted of many all-time and season PR's. The team finished in 1st, and the top 5 all placed in the top 10: Samantha Bolen (3, 20:04), Amelia Abbe (4, 20:10), Riley Flynn (6, 20:27), Kimmy Farrey (8, 21:02), and Sadie Smith (9, 21:05). On the boy's side, the Varsity team took 4th overall. Senior Josh Walker was the first finisher, placing 15th and running a 16:18. Christian Arellano, also a senior, placed 22nd and ran a 16:26. Not far behind, Graham Mussmon finished with a 16:36. In the JV Upperclassmen race, 

  • Park View High School: Third Battle Invitational- Junior Naomi Utgaard ran a 21:51, and teammate Kyleah Adesioye, also a junior, ran a 21:43 in the Girls Varsity Race. In the Girls JV Upperclassmen race, the team placed 16th, with junior Chrestine Ageeb finishing first for the team (31, 22:37). In the JV Underclassmen race, all ran a season PR. On the boy's side, John Monseur and Yanis Yelsi finished one after the other, running an 18:05 and an 18:06. 

  • Potomac Falls High School: Third Battle Invitational- The panthers placed 14th overall in the Girls Varsity race, junior Izi Belogay finishing as the first runner, running a 19:36. Seniors Hayley Eck and Zoe Durham placed 38th and 48th, running 19:46 and 19:58. The Boys Varsity team finished in 26th, Anthony Panagides running 16:38. Senior Matthew Fedorko ran a 17:26, Nicholas McDonough 17:35, Ryan Fedei 17:41, and Scott Mogensen 17:51. 

  • Riverside High School: MileStat- Rounding out their last race before taking on Districts, the Rams travelled to Mechanicsville to run some fast times. Starting off with the Varsity Boys, Joseph O'Such ran a 16:21, finishing as the first runner for the rams. Senior Theodore Williamson was not far behind, running a 16:41 with teammate Griffin Barley, who ran a 16:57. In the Girls Varsity race, Chlor Ramirez went sub-20, and junior Courtney Maynard finished not far behind with a 20:05. 


  • Rock Ridge High School: Third Battle Invitational- Johnathan Cobb and William Hagenlock helped the team finish in 15th in the Boys Varsity race, both going sub-17. Senior Taylor Semon placed 22nd in the Girls Varsity race, running a 19:25. Teammates Emmalee Ayala, Ainhoa Johnson, and Megha Korpol all finished within 20 seconds of each other. 

  • Stone Bridge High School: Third Battle Invitational-  The bulldogs placed 6th in the Boys Varsity race, senior Tristan Brodie (8, 15:58) helped to lead the team to their finishing place. Juniors George Alexander and Ricardo Talbot both went sub-17. In the Girls Varsity race, finishing 7th overall, Suzie Muller ran a 19:11, and Lauren Petranek ran a 19:31. 

    Tuscarora High School- did not race

    Woodgrove High School: Third Battle Invitational- Finishing in 12th place in the Girls Varsity race, the top 6 runners all finished under 21 minutes: Moriah Wauer, Ashley Moriarty, Audrey Warner, Layna Capritta, Esme Byrd, and Avigail Brubaker. Mason Roberts, Nolan Pettit, and Eric Nelson, the top 3 in the Boys Varsity race, all went sun-17:40, each running fast times.
