The entire season for Dan has been about three things; first was to break 15 minutes, second was to return to Nationals, and third is to finish top 10 at nationals. So far he is two for two and after today looks to be in the right spot for a big race in two weeks.
Having made the Foot Locker team before was a big benefit for O'Brien this weekend as he approached it much more of a qualifying round than a championship race. That allowed him to leave something in the tank and just run smartly to a national spot.
The national meet will be a different story though. After his 12th place finish a year ago he is hungrier now, more than ever, for a top ten finish at Nationals. His course record at VISAA show us that he has the ability to run much faster and we expect to see that come two weeks.
He is the 16th VA runner all-time to make two Foot Locker finals and just the second private school athlete to achieve that feat.
