The VHSL Class 5/6 State Meet Preview

55m Dash Preview

This race is one decided almost always at the start, so watch closely for who gets the best jump on the field early in the second of two finals for each division. Leading the way for Class 6 girls are Hannah Waller (South Lakes), Na'Tajah Ballard (Wester Branch), and Alicia Tomas (Potomac Senior). All three of these girls were regional champs and will be looking for a time around 6.9.

In the Class 6 boys race defending champion Chris Tyree (Thomas Dale) will look to fend off Bryan Ahouman (Potomac Senior), Keylin Jackson (Cosby), and Trei Thorogood (Freedom) in what is a very closely seeded race. Any time 6.32 or faster should win this one.

The most hotly contested sprint final of the weekend will most certainly be the Class 5 girls race between defending champion Junyce Hasberry (Maury), top seeded freshman Micayah Holland (Princess Anne), and Makhia Jarrett (Salem). All of these ladies are able to and most likely will have to run sub-seven to even think of winning this race.

Lastly will be boys from Class 5. Javonte' Harding (Prince George) is the top guy in this one but he has to have a good start this time around. He could break 6.30 and crack into the top 10 all-time in Virginia but once again needs a good start. Without a doubt he does have the most top-end speed though and was national runner-up in the 100m dash last year. His biggest competition here will be Ali Moore (Maury), and Abraham Evans (Bayside).
