VHSL Class 1/2 State Meet Preview

The Class 1/2 combined state championships is no longer the first state championships now being on Friday/Saturday but nonetheless should be exciting and bring together a wider group of schools and athletes than any other classification. It is only in this classification where you can find schools just meters away from Tennessee or Kentucky all the way to teams on the Eastern Shore bordering Delaware.

This weekend 50 teams and 465 athletes will convene on the Campus of Roanoke College for the state championship with the hopes of claiming one of the 30 state titles up for grabs or one of the two team titles.

Entering the competition Parry McCluer leads the boys side and Prince Edward leads on the girls side. Bruton and Wilson Memorial are seeded behind them on the girls side and John Marshall and Prince Edward are ranked second and third on the boys side.

The pre-meet MVP candidates are Kelsey Harrington (Virginia), Kensey May (Parry McCluer), Hanniyah Johnson (Prince Edward), and Carly Wilkes (Glenvar) on the girls side. The boys pre-meet candidates are Dylan May (Parry McCluer) and De'Avion Harding (Lancaster).
