VA Moves to Phase 2, Track Could Return In July!

The Commonwealth of Virginia, for the most part, has moved to Phase 2 or 3 in the reopening process. This move to Phase 2 now allows groups of up to 50 people and puts the state within a month or so of Phase 3 which lifts all bans on the size of gatherings. For track meets to happen we will need to be in Phase 3.

Though there is no certain timeline for when Virginia will enter Phase 3, the Governor and state officials have said to expect 2-4 weeks at each phase. Virginia spent three weeks in Phase 1. It would be expected that Virginia stays at least four weeks in Phase 2 as the Fourth of July holiday would be exactly four weeks away and state officials have moved to quell large gatherings on holidays before.

That all leads us to the potential return of track & field. Though there is no certainty, it looks like mid-July to early August there will be a return to action if meets are able to garner enough entries to put on the meet. AAU may also hold some meets later in the season than normal.

One meet on the schedule is still slated to happen and that is the Summertime Showcase. Meet management let us know the meet is still on as planned and needed just two things to make it sure it went off without a hitch: enough entries and Virginia being in Phase 3.
