VTCA Press Release: Standout Athletes Awarded VTCA Scholarships
Earlier this month, the Virginia Track Coaches Association (VTCA) announced the recipients of its second annual VTCA scholarship. In total, four worthy senior track and field athletes stood out from an impressive applicant pool. The top winner in each gender received a $1000 scholarship, while the runner-up in each gender won a $500 scholarship. Here are this year's winners:
Girls' Scholarships
$1000 Recipient- Mary Milby
High School: Spotswood
College She Will Be Attending: James Madison University
Academic Accomplishments: 4.2 Cumulative GPA; Member of the Science Club, National Honor Society, and Latin Club
Athletic Accomplishments: 2020 VHSL Class 3 Indoor Track State Champion in the 1000 Meters (3:00.81); 2019 VHSL Class 3 Indoor Track State Champion in the 500 Meters (1:18.67); Outdoor Track PRs of 1:00.14 for 400 meters and 2:18.50 for 800 meters; will be running XC and Track for the Dukes.
$500 Recipient- Jenna Kirkland
High School: West Point
College She Will Be Attending: Virginia Military Institute
Academic Accomplishments: Graduated with a 4.12 Cumulative GPA
Athletic Accomplishments: 2019 VHSL Class 1 Outdoor Track State Champion in the Discus (130-0); Three-time Regional Champion in the Discus; Personal bests of 135-4 for the Discus, 38-4 for the shot put, and 83 feet for the javelin; Will throw in college for the Keydets
Boys' Scholarships
$1000 Recipient- Stuart Terrill
High School: Western Albemarle
College He Will Be Attending: University of Richmond
Academic Accomplishments: 4.54 Cumulative GPA
Athletic Accomplishments: Five time All-State standout in VHSL Class 3 (1600/3200); 3rd place finish in the 2019 VHSL Class 3 State XC Championships; Personal best times of 4:27.05 for 1600 meters, 9:41.81 for 3200 meters, and 15:39.10 for 5000 meters in XC; Will run for the Spiders in the fall
$500 Recipient- David Homere
High School- Osbourn Park
College He Will Be Attending: Virginia Tech
Academic Accomplishments: Obtained a 3.26 Cumulative GPA while taking several AP courses
Athletic Accomplishments: Member of the 2019 VHSL Class 6 Outdoor State Champion 4 X 100 meter relay team; Personal bests of 11.39 in the 100 meters, 23.06 in the 200 meters, and 50.00 in the 400 meters; Will continue his track career next year with the Hokies

About the VTCA
The mission of the Virginia Track Coaches Association (VTCA) is "to provide opportunities for high school track and field/cross country coaches and athletes in the state of Virginia." The events and offerings of the VTCA include a fall cross country invitational, an indoor track invitational in the winter, plans for a future outdoor track invitational in the spring, a scholarship for graduating senior athletes, and a coaches clinic in the summer.
