VHSL Requiring Masks For Track, VISAA Is Not

The VHSL late this week and more recently the VISAA (private schools) have publicly made their statements with regards to wearing masks during practices and competitions. Here are their requirements below.

VHSL: Will require masks for most sports, including track and field and cross country. Masks must be worn by officials, spectators, coaches, and athletes at all times. That includes during competitions.

VISAA: Though they highly recommend wearing a mask at all times, they are not required for track and field.

The VHSL in an earlier release and their non-updated document on their website originally said athletes should not be required to wear masks during competitions. In his press statement, Dr. Billy Haun (Director of the VHSL) said he needed to make changes more in line with the governor's most up to date executive orders and to keep athletes safe.

No changes have come yet with USATF or AAU sanctioned events. Masks are of course encouraged when and wherever possible for both.
