One of Maryland's most active athletes this indoor season, Vaughn DeVaughn III stood out in three separate events this past weekend. He qualified for the finals in the 60 meter hurdles (his 8.64 time was just off his 8.60 season best). He also placed third in the high jump by clearing six feet, a mark he has cleared in all three of his attempts this season. And he topped it off with a 52.47 personal best in the 400 meter dash.
It had been awhile since Liam Lovering stepped into the ring - in the spring of 2019 he finished as the 3A state runner-up in the discus as a sophomore. Now a senior, Lovering set a new personal best (and a new MD #1 mark) in the shot put at the 757 Showdown, besting his own previous mark by over four and a half feet.
Two performances, two personal bests this season for Milford Mill's Korede Otusajo. Already the holder of the MD #3 mark in the 500 meter dash, Otusajo leapfrogged his way up to the second spot on the state leaderboard in the 800 with his 1:57.68 performance over the weekend. He and Isaiah Schulties are the only two athletes to have run under 1:58 this winter.
Zachary Wedding now owns the second-fastest converted 3200 time in the state after his 9:27.87 performance in a full two mile race over the weekend. He also broke the 4:20 mark for the second straight year - by the slimmest of margins. His 4:21.51 time in the mile converts to a 4:19.99 1600, making him the third boy in the state to crack that mark.
