Thursday was another exciting day of district meet action across the state of Virginia. The Concorde District boys was a barn burner between three of the state's best individuals in Andrew McCullen of Oakton, Chris Foley of Chantilly, and Yazid Zouamia of Centreville. McCullen established himself as the top runner in the Northern Region at least based off district performances as his 15:09 win was seven seconds faster than Kevin Dowd of Fairfax's 15:16 win in the Liberty District race held on the same Burke Lake 2.98 mile course on the same day.
At the Dominion District Meet, James River's Ted Richardson was unable to take down the new course record of 15:20 set by his top challenger at next week's Central Region Meet, Grant Pollock of Mills Godwin, but still ran strong in a 15:27 victory. Midlothian swept the team titles once again despite not racing at full strength. The Midlothian girls averaged 18:59 on the Pocahontas State Park 5K course, which their top Group AAA challenger Osbourn Park had averaged 18:53 on two weeks ago in a weekend invite.
More to come from district week as the results come in as we anxiously await to see what happened at the competitive Commonwealth District. We will be working extensively on meet summaries throughout Thursday night into Friday.

Meet Summary: Atlee had the front running and Hanover had the depth. Front running won at the Capital District Championships on Wednesday at Pole Green Park as the defending district champion Raiders of Atlee were able to fend off a valiant charge by the Hanover boys. There was no drama in determing the girls champions as freshmen Bonny Turnage and her Lee-Davis teammates were runaway winners with Turnage as a 29 second winner and Lee-Davis posting a low team score of 21 points. In the anciticipated match-up between the Western Branch and Grassfield boys, it was one-sided win for the Bruins of Western Branch placing three runners ahead of Grassfield's first finisher as Grassfield ended up slipping to third place behind Hickory. The Hickory teams had a great district meet with the girls winning the district title over Grassfield by 14 points. Great Bridge's Emily Smith has struggled this season to run at her 2008 All-State form, but a district title victory on Wednesday was a positive sign in that direction with the regional and state meet ahead.
