Tasty Race: Heritage Holds Off Montverde In A Blazing 4x200

The race was even through a lap before the baton went to Madison Whyte

And then, of course, that was the moment it changed.

In a blur, the Newport News Heritage (VA) High School girls took control of the fast section of the 4x200 on Saturday at the East Coast Invitational in Virginia Beach, developing a nearly 20 meter gap.

But it wasn't over.

Over the next two hand-offs, Montverde Academy chewed away.

In the final one, in fact, senior Micayah Holland almost completed the impossible, making up the difference. At the very least, she made things all the more interesting.

But Heritage held strong, securing the win and a new U.S. No. 3 time of 1:39.34.

Montverde Academy posted a U.S. No. 6 time of 1:40.44.
