Keydet Women Place Fifth at Blue Ridge Open

BOONE, N.C. – Behind a school record performance by Hannah Granger and strong performances by three freshmen, the VMI women's cross country team placed fifth at the Blue Ridge Open, held Friday in Boone, N.C.

Granger set a new VMI record in the 5K race, placing 11th overall in 18:08. The time helped VMI edge out Elon for 5th overall, and also helped the Keydets best such teams as Clemson, Coastal Carolina and High Point.

“The women's team did a really good job today,” said VMI head coach Paul Spangler. “In particular, I thought Corinne Lariviere and Lindsey Carty ran great races, and Hannah and Jenna were solid. We had some team members step up as needed, and I believe we have a lot of confidence going into the conference championships.”

Moye, Lariviere and Carty were all solid Friday in helping VMI to its fifth-place finish. Moye finished 20th with a time of 18:40, while Lariviere continued to rebound after missing the season's first two races due to injury. She placed 47th in a time of 19:23, and Carty posted a new personal best on Appalachian State's course, finishing in 19:32 to come home 56th.

Rounding out the VMI competitors were Leah Schubel (72nd/19:52), Jaime Freeman (131st/23:08) and Sam Conde (133rd/23:37).

VMI women's cross country will return to action Saturday, Oct. 31, as the Keydets travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. to take part in the Big South Championships.
