Rutto Leads Women’s Cross Country at NCAA Southeast Regional

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Norfolk State sophomore Kellen Rutto (Eldoret, Kenya) paced the women's cross country team at the 2009 NCAA Cross Country Southeast Regional on Saturday at the University of Louisville. Rutto finished the 6K course in 22:44.56 to help the Spartans to a 32nd-place finish.

It was the Spartans' first-ever appearance at the Southeast Regional after they won their first MEAC Cross Country championship two weeks ago.

Catherine White of Virginia won the individual title in 20:03.90 and Duke won the team title with 69 points. 

Junior Jennifer Chichester  (Silver Spring, Md.) was the Spartans' second finisher with a time of 23:15.40. She was followed by senior Tia Miles (Richmond, Va.) (24:27.00), freshman Mercy Koech (Londiani, Kenya) (25:23.10) and sophomore Jamia Hutto (Orlando, Fla.) (26:18.34).

Syeeda Gee (Philadelphia, Pa.) also ran for the Spartans, but did not factor into the team score (861 points). She ran a 27:27.45.
