Track and Field Visits Great Dane Classic

VMI Track and Field returns to action Friday, as the Keydets travel to New York City to take part in the Great Dane Classic. VMIKeydets.com will be on hand to provide coverage via our twitter page, as well as pictures following the meet. VMI Track and Field coaches also may tweet on their page, linked above. In addition, results are periodically updated at the meet home page which is linked above as well.

The Great Dane Classic is a yearly event hosted by the University of Albany at the historic Armory, home of the National Track and Field Hall of Fame. The Keydets have traveled to the meet each of the last two seasons, and have had some success in doing so.

Felix Kitur has earned a pair of top-two finishes in the 800-meters, winning the event last year and finishing second as a freshman. Kitur is scheduled to compete for the first time this season Friday. Also competing for the VMI men will be Chad Lawson, who posted an IC4A qualifying mark in the weight throw during last week's event at Kent State. Lawson will be joined by Cody Davis, who will also take part in the shot put during Friday's proceedings.

VMI's other IC4A qualifier from Kent State, James Alexander, will also be in action as he competes in the 200-meter dash. Alexander's 22.05 effort last week was good for third place, and he will look to better that result in New York.

On the women's side, three members of the squad that set the VMI record in the Distance Medley Relay (DMR) will be competing. Hannah Granger and Jenna Moye are scheduled to run in the 3,000-meters, while Chandale Williams will run in her trademark event, the 400-meters. Moye, in addition to the DMR team's exploits, comes off a third-place finish in the mile during last week's Kent State meet.

Two of Moye's classmates, Leah Schubel and Lindsey Carty, are scheduled to run Friday as well. Schubel, who was the top finishing freshman in the 5,000-meters at Kent State, will run the mile Friday, while Carty, who placed immediately behind Schubel in Ohio, will join Granger and Moye in the 3,000. The Keydets will also send three athletes out for the women's pole vault, as Kate Collins, Carrie Wortham and Jennifer Sing are all on the entry list.
