Success in cross country is one thing, continuing it onto the track is another. Sophomore Michael Tafe has done so and then some this year. Currently, he is the only underclassmen ranked inside the top 5 in any running event on the boys' side.
The Loudoun County sophomore is no stranger to the front of the pack. Over the course of his two years in high school he has already tallied eight victories and 29 top five finishes. The highlight of his young career though was this year's Class 4 XC State meet where he ran his way to his first state title.
So far indoors, he has only raced seriously once and that was at the VA Showcase. In that race he would ultimately finish 6th running 9:18 for 3200m. That time was fast enough to move him up to VA #5.
This upcoming week we will see what he races at regionals and that could give us a great look into what his plans are for states. He currently leads Class 4 in the 3200 as well.
Despite just being a sophomore, Michael Tafe has emerged as one of the distance guys to watch in the entire state. He is not only a future star but a star already today.
