Comara Scores 18 Points at State Meet as a Freshman

Hermitage freshman, Massandje Comara put the state on notice Tuesday that she is going to be a force to reckon with next four years.

Tuesday at the VHSL Class 5 State Championships Comara rans some amazing races. First up was the 500m Dash final. In that race she ran alongside fellow freshman Carmen Johnson of Ocean Lakes for the first half of the race but the second she was setting her own pace and pulling away. Ultimately Comara would break the tape in 1:12.55. That time is a freshman state record for VA and ranks 5th all-time in state history.

Though the time was crazy, we think she has even more in the tank!

That fact was proven when just a couple hours later she returned for the 300m dash where she finished second in a blazing time of 39.58 from the unseeded heat. Had she been in the top section, our money was on her to improve by just .2 seconds and take the win.

Not only is it going to be fun watching her race in the future, the state meet is going to be especially fun since the entire top four in the 500 and top three in the 300 all return next year.
