Individual Events Preview
While most of the attention is rightfully on the relay competition, the Jamaican athletes are also competing in multiple individual field events across the weekend. On the boys side, Jamaican athletes enter as the favorites in five events while the girls enter as favorites in four events.
Across these fields events you will get to see Jamaican National Champions and athletes with some impressive marks. Here are some of the big names and athletes to watch. Interestingly enough, some of the biggest performances will come out on the throws field.
Long Jumps: Chloe Palmer of St. Elizabeth Tech enters with a 20-6 best while on the boys side Shamir Kelly of Kingston College owns a 24-5.25 personal best.
Triple Jumps: Jaeda Robinson of Immaculate (43-4) and Michael-Andre Edwards of Jamaica College (50-5.5) enter as favorites and reigning Jamaican National Champions.
High Jumps: Danielle Noble of Wolmer's has jumped 5-11 and Chavez Penn of Jamaica College has jumped 6-9.75 to both enter as favorites and with hopes of breaking the big barrier just ahead of them.
Discus Throw: Abel Mills of St. Catherine's enters with a best of 169-6 and Jamaica College's Joseph Salmon enters having thrown 203 feet.
Javelin Throw: Calabar's Tarique Daley has launched a 200 foot throw already this season.
Shot Put: Despiro Wray of Kingston College has thrown 62-2.25 on the season thus far.
