Gus Lacy field set, expect records!!!

FORK UNION, VA -- The third annual Gus Lacy Track Classic set for this Saturday has a loaded field and spectators can expect an assault on the record book. With Deep Creek and Atlee entered expect a great team battle in the Boys' and look for Manchester and Western Branch to do battle in the Girls.' The limited entry meet brings in fifteen schools and is noted for its finals only format, perfect for this time of year.

The Classic was started three years ago as a forum to dedicate the new track named in honor of Col. E.H. Gus Lacy, a former coach and employee of Fork Union Military Academy. This year the meet will honor Martin Keino. Keino was a standout at FUMA, an NCAA champion and is now a world class runner. His image dons this years t-shirt. This year as was the case last year, each event is named for a former FUMA track standout.

Several events this year could shape up as barnburners. In the 1600 an Andrew Keino/Brandon King match-up in is a possibility. King is fresh off his 4:20 effort at the Captains Classic. The Boys' 100 could finally land in the hands of Deep Creek should DeAndre Hyman enter. However, look out for Reynold Smith of Forest Park and the emerging Delton Ashburn of Fork Union. Desmond Perkins of Deep Creek and Midlothians' D'Amato add excellence to the distances. Stay tuned to Milestat for a more complete preview on Wednesday.
