Build it, and they will come

FORK UNION, VA -- When Fred Hardy and Winston Brown first saw the newly renovated track facility at Fork Union they knew they had to come up with something worthy of it. They also knew that they had to do something unique in order to attract quality teams. Thus, the Gus Lacy Track Classic was designed to give athletes a more friendly schedule and coaches and officials less of a burdensome day. The idea was to host a meet with fewer schools than most big meets. Another idea was to make the meet more athlete friendly by not making sprinters have to run in prelims. Three years later, many of the State's best are converging on the limited entry meet that places a premium on team competition and provides enough talented athletes to produce fantastic performances. Strategy also plays a part with the wildcard entry concept that allows a school a third entry in one event. To date, only Churchland High School has had a wildcard entry and its two other entries score in an event. This year with the likes of Deep Creek, Salem and Atlee expect the wildcard entry to have an impact.

The meet will start at 10:30 with field events and running events will start at 11:30. The following is a list of the top entrants and possible marquis match-ups.
