Track and Field Prepares for Military Championships

LEXINGTON, Va. - Plans are underway for VMI track and field to host the second Military Track and Field Championships, scheduled for March 26-27 in Lexington, Va.

The event will feature track and field teams from each of the seven service academies: Army, Navy, VMI, The Citadel, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine and Air Force. It is the second meet contested between the seven institutions, as a similar event took place in Lexington during the 2007 season.

The schools will not be the only competitors during the final weekend in March, as four sections of paralympic events will also be held. Those athletes will take part in the shot put, discus throw and the 100 and 200-meter dashes.

"It is an honor for our track and field program to host this meet once again," said VMI head coach Darrin Webb. "We are sure it will be an exciting weekend of great competition, and our team is hopeful that the military will develop interest in this meet. We're also pleased to host paralympic competitors, which is not a traditional occurrence at our home meets."

Results and additional pre-meet information will be available on VMIKeydets.com, and admission will be free to the proceedings. A full preview will be posted next week.
