Live Blog - Military Track and Field Championships - Day One

VMI hosts the Military Track and Field Championships Friday and Saturday, and VMIKeydets.com is on hand with a live blog. As always, feel free to email saloisbj@vmi.edu with any comments or questions, and thanks for reading!

5:39 - Shot put has concluded, and so has day one of this meet. Results posted above, and remember, day two gets underway tomorrow at 8 a.m. with the women's javelin.

4:51 p.m. - Second flight still going on...Yes, the shot put takes some time :-).

4:22 p.m. - Second flight of women's shot put about to get underway. Remember, we get started at 8 a.m. tomorrow with the javelin, and weather projections are clear. Come on out!

4:01 p.m. - Davis seventh in men's shot, Chris Boniwell of Navy wins with a 15.25 M toss. As you may have seen on Twitter, Angela Jenkins of Army became the first two-time champion of this event with her win in the women's triple jump.

3:22 p.m. - Still the men's shot and the women's triple going on...No Keydet women are entered in the triple jump, but the shot features Cody Davis and James Handler...And now I'm told that the triple just wrapped up, with the shot soon to do so. I'm going to down to the field to get the latest, which will likely be posted on Twitter once I find it. I'll also put it here later on, if you're more inclined to wait :-).

2:54 p.m. - Still cold and rainy here...Just finished helping News 7 with an interview. They talked with Lt. Col. Greg Gadson, VMI's current leader-in-residence who is a wounded warrior that lost both of his legs in the current conflict, and a discussion between him and Chad Lawson was filmed as well. Keep an eye out for that, as well as a piece with Coach Webb that the crew taped about 1:30. In results so far, VMI's Terrance Green came home fifth in the triple jump (13.57 M) while Ademola Titcombe was third (14.37 M). The paralympic shot put saw Scott Winklur (10.52 M) record the furthest distance, while Scott Severn (8.07 M) was shown as recording a type of record. We've been unable to confirm the status/idenification of that record, but we'll certainly post that once we do. On the women's side, Daphane Wright recorded a 5.89 M to take the victory.

Finally, we've pushed an event (men's pole vault) back to tomorrow. With the small number of events and some timing issues we're having, there won't be any "live" results posted today. We are still planning on running those tomorrow, however.

The women's triple jump and the men's shot appear to be underway now.

Noon - We'll still be alternating between Twitter and this blog, but regardless, we're underway here with the Military Paralympic shot put.

11:37 a.m. - We're here at Foster Stadium with the music rolling and everyone getting ready...Our first event will be the Military Paralympic shot put, scheduled for a noon start, but that may be bumped up slightly if all the competitors are ready to go.

It's a cold, rainy day in Lexington, so here's what we're going to do. We'll switch to our Twitter feed (linked below) for periodic updates throughout the field events, at least as long as it is sporadically raining. Make sure to check in both locations throughout the day for the latest news...We're excited to be hosting this meet, and hope you can come out!
