Harris, Women's Javelin Pace Keydets at UVA

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Aquisi Harris set a new personal best in the hammer throw, while VMI placed three javelin throwers in the top six during the women's version of that event Friday afternoon at the Lou Onesty Invitational in Charlottesville.

Harris launched the hammer 48.26 meters (158'4”) to surpass her previous personal best mark (46.25 meters), which she set last weekend at Liberty. The effort was good enough for fifth place, and was just under two meters shy of an ECAC qualifying toss.

The women's javelin was also kind to the Keydets, as VMI placed three competitors among the event's top six finishers. School record holder Michelle Feole led the way, placing fourth with a 38.05 meter (124'10”) heave, while Hope Hackemeyer and Katlin Harrison were fifth and sixth, respectively. Hackemeyer threw the implement exactly one meter less than Feole, coming in at 37.05 meters (121'7”), and Harrison continued her emergence with a 36.85 meter toss (120'11”).

The hammer throwers were also in action on the men's side, including Chad Lawson, who posted a seasonal best in the hammer throw with a 50.72 meter (166'5”) effort. That earned him a ninth-place finish, one spot ahead of teammate Cody Davis, who posted a distance of 46.95 M (154'0”).

VMI track and field will return to action Saturday, as the Keydets take part in day two of the Lou Onesty Invitational, held on the University of Virginia's campus. The day's events are set to get underway at 10 a.m.
