Webb shatters Burke Lake record with amazing 13:57!

BURKE LAKE, VA -- South Lakes senior Alan Webb just continues to find a way to always outdo his previous top performance. It's going to be hard for him to top his latest. Webb shattered the Burke Lake Park 2.98 Mile Course record by 20 seconds with his too hot to touch time of 13:57. Webb has shown great improvement from earlier in the year when he ran 28 seconds slower at the Monroe Park Invitational on the same course. But Webb was determined to go under 14. He shot out like a cannon the first 800 as he covered the first half mile in 2:09. He then proceeded to hit mile and 2 mile splits of 4:32 and 9:10 respectively. He then covered the last .98 of a mile in 4:47 to finish in at an amazing time of 13:57 on the historic and challenging Burke Lake Park course.

Webb's race couldn't help his team to a district title as Oakton was very strong in scoring 30 points as they were propelled by senior Matt Maline's second place finishing time of 15:07. Other teams advancing to the Northern Region Meet next week on the same course are South Lakes (60 pts), Jefferson (74 pts), and Herndon (84 pts).

The girls team race was as good as it gets. Through 5 runners, both Thomas Jefferson and Chantilly put together 51 points each. However, it is so vital for a team that wants to be successful to have a strong top 6 as in situations like these. Thomas Jefferson had that advantage of having a better #6 runner than Chantilly as their #6 runner came in 17th place with Oakton's far back at 39th. That was the tiebreaker that gave Thomas Jefferson the edge and the district title.

Oakton's Keira Carlstrom had an excellent race as she broke 18 on the 2.98 mile course with her time of 17:54. Thomas Jefferson senior Kelley Otstott took runner up honors as she led her squad to a district title with her time of 18:05.

Other girls squads advancing onto regionals are Herndon (76 pts) and Oakton (78 pts).
