Davis and Lawson Represent Keydets During Friday's Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – VMI's Chad Lawson and Cody Davis took part in events during Friday's proceedings at the Penn Relays, as the meet continued at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pa.

Davis finished 14th in the college division of the shot put, as he tossed the implement 15.15 meters (49'8 ½”). The finish, although not up to his personal best (set last week at the Big South Championships), did place him ahead of a pair of competitors from South Carolina, among others.

Lawson finished 18th in the college section of the discus throw, as he was able to notch a 47.29 meter mark (155'1”). The toss was very similar to the one he recorded at the conference meet (47.53 M/155'11”), where he earned all-conference honors.

VMI track and field will return to action Saturday, as Lawson throws the hammer and the 4X800-meter relay takes to the track on the final day of the Relays. Action will also include the much-discussed appearance of Usain Bolt, as the 2008 100 and 200-meter Olympic Champion takes to the track in the U.S. vs. The World 4X100-meter relay. Bolt has appeared at Penn in prior years, but not since his 2008 Olympic exploits. That race is scheduled for a 2:50 p.m. start.
