Satterwhite Leads Track and Field at High Point

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Matt Satterwhite posted an IC4A qualifying time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to lead a contingent from the VMI track and field teams Sunday evening at High Point University's VertKlasse Meet, held in High Point, N.C.

Satterwhite's time of 9:13.25 gave him the event win in the uniquely structured event, as field sizes were severely restricted to shorten the length of the overall meet. The time shattered the senior's personal best by nine seconds, surpassing his effort just 10 days ago at the Big South Championships. It also makes him the eighth individual Keydet to qualify for the IC4A/ECAC Championships, as those eight are joined on the qualification list by a pair of relay teams.

On the women's side, Michelle Feole was the Keydets' top finisher, as she earned a runner-up placing in the javelin throw. Her top effort was a 37.10 meter (121'9”) toss, which put her two spots ahead of teammate Hope Hackemeyer. Hackemeyer's fourth-place finish came on the strength of a 31.52 M throw (103'5”).

Also competing Sunday were Matt Sagar and Jason Thorpe, as Sagar was third in the steeplechase (9:32.40) while Thorpe was 13th in the 1,500 (4:02.25), an event that featured one of the largest fields of the evening (23).

VMI track and field will return to action Thursday, as the Keydets travel to Liberty University in Lynchburg for the Liberty Twilight Qualifier. Action will get underway at 1:30 p.m.
