State Meet Favorite For 1K Just Scored Her 1,000th Point

Seven-time state champion Elaina Pierce made history this week and looks to make even more history next week. The Charlottesville High School standout is not only excelling on the track but also on the court.

Elaina Pierce's Stats

This past week, in between winning the regional titles in the 1K and 1600, she tallied her 1,000th career point for the Charlottesville varsity girls basketball team. As you can see, basketball is not just an afterthought but seriously one of her focuses indoors.

Basketball plays a large enough part in her schedule that even her events at the state meet are picked in order to be able to play basketball the very same day. That's why she doesn't run the 3200 at states despite being the two-time defending XC state champion. If Charlottesville is able to advance to states she could be running, literally and figuratively, from track states to basketball states on Tuesday.

On the track, the UVA commit, has continued to excel running PR's in both the 1K and 1600 this season. She ran 4:47 for the 1600 to win the VA Showcase and 2:50 in the 1K to enter the VHSL Class 4 meet as the favorite.

She is also joined by her sister Juliana Pierce who is also ranked highly in multiple events and also plays on the basketball team.
