CHAPEL HILL, NC - Sophomore Julia Cathcart (Starkville, MS) qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 3,000m as four-time defending CAA Champion William and Mary women's track and field competed Saturday at the Carolina Classic. The North Carolina-hosted meet also included teams from Duke, N. C. State, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and CAA programs UNC-Wilmington and Virginia Commonwealth.

Cathcart clocked a personal-record 9:54.98 to break the ECAC qualifying mark in the 3,000m, claiming fourth in the race. Fellow sophomore Meghan Bishop (Blue Bell, PA) also had a strong showing in the race, timing a 9:59.35, less than half a second off the ECAC mark, for seventh. Both Bishop and Cathcart have already qualified for the ECACs in the 5,000m.

In the 400m, senior Naomi Mattos (Woodbridge, VA) clocked a season-best 58.57 to claim runner-up honors. The Tribe had several high finishers in the 5,000m as junior Karen Pulliam (North Potomac, MD) claimed third in the race and sophomore Christy Dannenberg (Reston, VA) finished fifth. Senior Cassidy Harris (Geneva, IL) also claimed fifth in the shot.

The Tribe is back in action February 11-12 as split squads will contest the Virginia Tech Challenge in Blacksburg, VA and Christopher Newport's Winter Frolic in Newport News, VA.
