Cross Country Programs Announce 2010 Schedule

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI men's and women's cross country programs have announced their 2010 schedule, according to information released by the program Thursday.

The Keydet women, led by defending Big South Champion Hannah Granger and conference Freshman of the Year Jenna Moye, will return their top five runners from last year's Big South runner-up effort, the best performance in program history. They also add all-state runner Tammy Cheung, among others.

On the men's side, VMI returns Felix Kitur, who is now a two-time 800-meter national qualifier during track season. The Keydets will also have Ermin Mujezinovic, a former All-Big South runner, along with several talented runners from last year's freshman class. In addition, VMI's top runner from a season ago, Andrey Dmitriev, will return from Russia and rejoin the Keydets in the upcoming season. Finally, the Keydets added Cabell Willis of Richmond's Collegiate School, who was the state mile and two-mile champion this past season.

The cross country programs will open up at home, as has been the custom for the past several seasons. The Keydets will host the VMI Relays at the Virginia Horse Center on Friday, Sept. 3, and then will return to action 22 days later for the Big South Preview meet in Radford, Va. The Charlotte Invitational follows on Friday, Oct. 1, and is held at McAlpine Park in the Queen City, the home of the Foot Locker Regional Championships.

VMI then heads to Boone, N.C. for the Appalachian State Invitational on Oct. 15, before taking part in the Big South Championships in Radford on Saturday, Oct. 30. The season then ends with the NCAA Regional Championships, held on Nov. 13 in Louisville, Ky., as well as the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. on Nov. 24.
