Brentsville boys and girls take home titles

MADISON COUNTY, VA -- The 2000 Bull Run District Meet was a good day to be a Brentsville Tiger. Both boys and girls squads took home district titles.

The boys had their work cut out for them though as they squeaked out a title with 58 points as Madison County followed closed behind with 62 points. They were led by Andrew Cheshire's 4th place finishing time of 17:47.

The girls team race also went 1-2 Brentsville and Madison County, but the score wasn't as close in this scenario. The Brentsville girls were led by Mindy Peele who set the new course record with her time of 20:12 as she won the individual district title. In all, the Lady Tigers had 4 runners in the top 15.

Clarke County senior Dustin Sweeney is just getting better as the season progresses. Sweeney won the boys race as he set the new course record with a time of 16:53. Sweeney, while often considered one of the best if not the best Single A cross country runners in the state, has gone without a state title to show for his acclaim. He will be looking to change that at the A State Meet at Great Meadows in Warrenton on November 11th.
