Radford Women Fourth, Men Fifth at the 2005 New Balance Big South Indoor Track and Field Championshi

Blacksburg, Va. - The Radford University men's and women's track and field squad finished fifth and fourth respectively at the 2005 New Balance Big South Indoor Track and Field. The men totaled 64.50 points while the women gathered 58 total points on the day. Liberty swept both men's and the women's Big South Indoor Championships.

Sophomore Tiffany Evans picked up two victories over the course of the day. Evans threw a distance of 48-10.25 in the shot and the 61 feet even in the weight throw. Ashley Camden placed fifth in the shot and seventh in the weight throw.

Senior sprinter Maurika Quarles walked away with two top five finishes on the day. Quarles placed second and ran a time of 57.32 in the 400 meter dash. In the 200 meter dash she picked up fifth place with a time of 25.61. In the 400 meter dash teammates Kwadena Caple and Lauren Diggs finished sixth and ninth respectively.

In the 60 meter hurdles freshman Ashlee Edwards took sixth and was clocked at 9.19, while freshman Alisha Bryant notched ninth jumping a distance of 17-05.50 in the long jump. The women's 4x400 meter relay team placed second (3:55.32) and the distance medley team placed fourth (13:18.75).

On the men's side, RU posted 8 top-five performances (6 individual and 2 relays). Brian Richotte took first and set a new school record in the weight throw. He bettered his distance of 65-07.40 to 65-08.75. Teammate Jeremiah Spence grabbed third in the event with a distance of 57-08.50. James Nixon and Caleb Anderson placed sixth and eighth in the event respectively. Nixon also garnered fourth in the shot put throwing a distance of 51-00.75.

In the sprints, freshman Quentin Preston finished fourth in the 60 meter dash to set a new school record of 6.93 in the event. Also setting a new school record and finishing sixth in the 200 meter dash was Paul Hall. He broke the previous record by 13 seconds with a 22.27 in the event.

Freshman jumper Dan Oseth finished fifth in the High Jump with a height of 6-04.00, while freshman teammate Ross Bolden grabbed third jumping a distance of 23-00.75. The men's 4x400 meter relay finished third (3:21.56) and the distance medley relay placed fourth (10:52.19).
