VCU\'s Polish Newcomers Earn Season-Best Marks At VT Last Chance

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Sophomore newcomers Lukasz Matusiewicz (Warsaw, Poland) and Mariusz Mostrag (Krajnik, Poland) of Virginia Commonwealth earned season-best times of 1:52.45 and 1:52.82, respectively, in the 800m, as they finished second and third in the event at the Virginia Tech Last Chance Meet on Saturday.

Senior transfer Brett Frykberg (Jacksonville, Fla./University of Tennessee), competing in his first meet for VCU, put up the best leap in the high jump by a Ram this season, as the former NCAA competitor achieved a mark of 6-8.75, good enough for third place.

Freshman Jackie DeShazo (Mechanicsville, Va./Virginia Intermont) also earned a season-best with his mark of 7.00 in the 60m. Sophomore standout Davion Lambert (Richmond, Va./Varina) put up his third-best marks of the season in the long and triple jumps. The local product leaped 23-8.75 in the long jump, and 48-3.5 in the triple jump. The meet concludes the indoor season for the Rams and will kick off the outdoor campaign as it hosts the Ram Invitational, March 18-19, at the Richard A. Hollander Track and Field Facility at Sports Backers Stadium.
